GADSDEN ISD TO CLOSE SCHOOLS FOR PAPAL VISIT

Due to the security preparations for the Papal visit Feb. 17 and its affecting changes in traffic flow to the  Santa Teresa Port of Entry and other possible changes to I-10  traffic affecting Sunland Park area and Anthony, Gadsden ISD will cancel classes at all district campuses on the day of the papal visit, announced Superintendent Efren Yturralde Thursday.

Gadsden district had previously planned to hold classes on the day of the Pope Francis' visit to Juarez however; recent plans by the El Paso Emergency Management are anticipated to directly affect traffic and other business commerce in the southern New Mexico area and traffic routes through Gadsden ISD.

Gadsden security officials indicated that efforts to secure the border in the El Paso and Sunland Park area will dramatically increase commercial truck traffic since plans indicated that cargo traffic in and out of Juarez would be rerouted to the Santa Teresa Port of Entry.

Officials are also anticipating an increase in the number of private planes arriving at the Santa Teresa-Dona Ana County Airport along with an anticipate increase in traffic on I-25, Highway 54 and Highway 9, all routes affecting traffic and  routes used by Gadsden ISD school buses.

Emergency officials also indicated to district security officials that due to the possibly heavy volume of traffic in the area, delays in response of fire or medical units could be significantly delayed.

Parents are urged to find additional information on the Gadsden ISD website.

Message from Our Principal

Welcome,

Maintaining a "safe and positive" instructional environment is one of our priorities.  For safety reasons, we will continue with the following rules/procedures:

  • As per our Superintendent Mr. Yturralde, all doors must remain locked throughout the day.
  • All visitors must stop at the office.
  • Parents may conference with their child's teacher during the teacher's conference period or scheduled appointments.
  • Parents will be allowed to walk their child to class for the first week of school- after the first week students will be dropped off in the cafeteria or foyer.  Instructional Assistants will be available to assist adults in the building.
Thank you for supporting us and following our procedures.  Our objective is to keep adult traffic to a minimum for the safety of our children.

"With your help- we will make Great things happen!"
